From Outer Banks To Morocco By Fishing Boat

Outer Banks

Outer Banks is a series on Netflix that has made fans completely lose themselves in the story. The action is like a swashbuckling pirate story with treasure and murder that is set in contemporary times and obviously in the infamous Outer Banks of North Carolina.

As treasure hunts go, an amulet provides clues that take the adventure to Charleston, South Carolina to find another piece of the puzzle, which turns out to be a map. The map leads to the ultimate treasure everyone’s fighting over, the crown. The problem is that the map can’t simply be read with the naked eye. It requires a specific jewel from a specific necklace that is hidden in a very specific tomb that JJ soon finds out is where his real mother is buried.

All of these moving parts keep changing hands from the good guys to the bad guys and back. There are so many sides trying to find the crown and just when one side thinks they have it licked, along comes a swift twist that turns the momentum of the story a completely different way. In the middle of all this action, we have our sweet and innocent main characters who are only trying to do the right thing but find themselves in serious trouble every time they turn around. They’re just trying to find the treasure and enjoy a little of the good life. Is that so much to ask?

That is exactly how crazy this story gets and if you’re a fan of fictional, pirate-type stories, you’ll love Outer Banks and everything it has to offer. It has wealthy judgemental snobs hating on working-class families who keep the town running year around. It has mercenaries who are coming after the treasure and then it has villains who will smile to your face while stabbing you in the back, then ask for your help only to stab you in the back again after they get it.

But enough of how much the show resembles real life. When it’s all said and done, when the jewel is used to read the map, it leads everyone to Morocco, a country in North Africa. Now, I don’t care how the mercenaries get there. I imagine they’ve been all over the high seas. I just want to focus on our core stars Sarah, John B, Cleo, Pope, Kiara, and JJ. They seem like a bunch of high school kids, and Pope had plans of going to college. So, that’s about how old these guys are.

Played by Madelyn Cline, Chase Stokes, Carlacia Grant, Jonathan Daviss, Madison Bailey, and Rudy Pankow, respectively, these guys are setting off to sail four thousand miles from Outer Banks to Morocco in a fishing boat. To complete the picture, Sarah’s brother, Rafe Cameron who is played by Drew Starkey, finagles his way into the adventure. Off these seven adventurers go to find a treasure worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Forget the rest of what the story is about because it’s all great fantasy stuff and I was into every second of it. But let’s just talk for a second about this four-thousand-mile trek across the ocean in a fishing boat. Best case scenario, it’s going to take a couple of weeks. Worst case, it can take over a month.

No spoilers about how it actually happens, but it seems like they get there in about two or three days. They manage to catch some fish along the way, which is good. But when they hit land, they walk a good distance to get to town. They don’t have food the entire time and to be honest, I hardly ever see them eat.

They don’t make that a part of the story. Eating isn’t important to these people. But they can walk across deserts, climb mountains, fight the bad guys, run through streets, and steal cars in their highly active lifestyle, all while not eating anything more than an apple every once in a while.

I’m not going to give you any spoilers. All I’m saying is I’m a foodie and I would have been out of the adventure as soon as it started if it didn’t have food. If I’m going to travel from Outer Banks to Morocco, I at least need some snacks. A bag of corn chips for the boat ride, a box of chocolate chips for the walk across the desert, maybe stop at Burger King along the way, those are my requirements at a minimum.
