As Wicked is set to be released in mere days, the merchandise has already hit the shelves. But they made one huge blunder, the likes of which I’ve only ever heard come from Disney merchandise.
Remember in Lion King when Simba plops himself on the ground and the dust flies into the air to form what we all have agreed is the word “SEX?” Then, there was the cover of Little Mermaid when it came out on VHS that had a golden penis on it? The big one by which we all agree is in Aladdin when the titular character is visiting Princess Jasmine on her balcony and we could all hear the voice whisper, “Good teenagers take off your clothes?”

Disney has had their excuses for each one of these blunders. It felt like gaslighting at times because we all knew what we saw or heard. But that’s only part of the controversies Disney has had to deal with over the years.
Universal Pictures might want to give them a call and talk to their PR guy after their huge goof! Imagine being a parent and buying your kid a Wicked doll only to get it home to find the mention of a website on the back. Of course, your adoring little child wants to visit the website and see what’s on it!
Warning! Do not go there!
Somehow, for some reason, they printed wicked.com and that has nothing to do with the movie or Universal Pictures at all. It takes you to an adult site where you have to be 18 to enter, or willing to lie about it. At least, there is a warning instead of going straight through to the naked people.
Universal Pictures is going to have fun with that one. I predict a huge recall or maybe they’ll just rely on people like me to get the news out and let you know not to go there with your child. What I do know is that there are millions of phone calls pouring into the poor customer service people who have to listen to the yelling and screaming about their traumatic experience when all they were trying to do was something special for their precious child.
Don’t let that ruin the moment though! With Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jeff Goldblum, and Peter Dinklage among the big names in the movie, you know it’s going to be awesome. It will go up there as one of the greatest movies of all time. We might just talk about it and watch it for years to come like the original The Wizard of Oz that came out in 1939.
I said, “Might!”
