It’s one of those moments when you’re watching regular television and all of a sudden, a surprisingly hot scene hits you in the eyes. It came out of nowhere and now, your brain is seared with sexy imagery that will play havoc on your mind until you take a cold shower or work it off in some effective way. Some of these revealing scenes go back years and took chances other shows wouldn’t but we’re thankful they did.
Years ago, men used to patrol the beaches and pool areas with a measuring stick. If a lady looked like she was showing too much leg, they had the job of measuring from the bottom of the bathing suit to the top of the knee. That’s right! That happened in America.
Imagine what popular shows were like back then. The jokes had to be so squeaky clean that even the church lady would approve. The only revealing scenes viewers got to enjoy were finding out if Lassie saved the boy from the well or if John-Boy ever left the nest and became a writer.
But there were shows that pushed the envelope. Imagine Mary Tyler Moore breaking ground in the 70s with her show. She was a trailblazer in so many ways. While showing the world that women could do anything a man could do, she was doing it with class and was often the most thought-provoking character on the stage. But there was something else special about her and that part was hard for her to hide.
You might not think it because a dress like that now is not risque at all but at one time, it was unheard of to wear something like that in a television show. First of all, the television programming was different and anyone with a television could simply plug it into the wall to watch the shows on the four major networks. Besides ABC, NBC, and CBS, there was also PBS which you actually might have. There is an app!
That meant that television was highly regulated. Just like how kids can’t go into bars or strip clubs, they couldn’t watch sex on television. So, there were no revealing scenes except when someone like Mary Tyler Moore pushed the boundary.
These days, cable has changed all that. Sex is everywhere and the horny little juveniles have seen it all by now. So, sexy scenes don’t have to be snuck into our shows. But there’s a way to do it and then there is a great way to do it.
Of course, a love scene can be all about throwing clothes all over the floor and naked bodies moving around in all sorts of directions. If it leaves nothing to the imagination, then there’s nothing to imagine. But I am one with the idea that it’s best to be revealing without taking it all off. It’s tantalizing. It’s healthy. It’s classy. And it does more for the quality of the show than T&A ever will.
Just like these scenes…
