The Big Bang Theory Almost Didn’t Have A Penny

Everyone knows that Kaley Cuoco made The Big Bang Theory the hit it was. Of course, there was Leonard, Sheldon, Howard, Raj, Bernadette, and Amy, but Penny was the one who wasn’t quite like the others and that made the show.

Of course, this is debatable. Everyone has their own opinion. After all, Sheldon’s character was the only one to make a spinoff. I don’t know if a show about Penny and Leonard would have even been good. But that’s really not the argument. A show about the boy genius, yes. A show about a married couple with kids, not so much.

That doesn’t take away from the fact that in The Big Bang Theory, Penny was surrounded by very smart people, one of them much, much smarter than the rest. Her girlfriends are a doctor at a pharmaceutical company and a neuroscientist. She definitely stands out from the group.

What would the show have been like if she weren’t even in it? Wouldn’t that have been weird? It almost happened. There was almost a character named Katie, who was played by Amanda Walsh, and that would have made all the difference in the world.

The Introduction of Katie

What would this show have been like? I don’t think it would have lasted more than a season. It needed changes. Amanda Walsh is a great actress who has gone on to have a great career in Hollywood doing other projects. This one just wouldn’t have worked for her.

Pre-Penny Talking Their Language

By the way, they even had another scientist friend named Gilda. The show would have been completely different. I’m glad they went back to the drawing board and reworked it to come up with Penny.

The Big Bang Theory Without Penny

The Big Bang Theory would have been a hot mess. This is why I stick by my guns when I say Penny made the show. There were plenty of great characters in it but only one like her.
