America’s Got Talent had an interesting show on Tuesday evening. A contestant by the name of Josh Alfred got on stage and wouldn’t get off. It wasn’t as if he had to be escorted off by Terry Crews or anything. No, he just refused to leave.
In his first appearance, he introduced himself as a speed reader and then read three books before getting the “X” by Sofia Vergara. The next time he walked out on stage, he had different hair and announced he was the fastest rapper. He got the “X” for that as well. In his final attempt to win, he said that he could do magic and it amounted to nothing, but it was very funny. The thing is, there might be a reason for that.
Josh Alfred is already a stand-up comedian with three million Instagram followers and 70K on Twitter as well as very impressive visibility across the internet. He’s been in five movies that include Lagos Real Fake Life in 2018, Knock Out in 2019, Makate Must Sell in 2019, Lockdown in 2021, and Money Miss Road in 2022. In fact, he was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Money Miss Road at the African Movie Academy Awards.
It’s quite possible that Josh worked it out with America’s Got Talent producers that he would split his act up into three different parts just for the amusement of the audience or to gain wider attention in America. It’s also believable that the judges might not have been in on this part of the show, and it was done entirely for the sake of entertainment.
Of course, Josh would have been allowed to compete. There is no known clause in their policy that an act can’t already have a career when they perform. It’s not an amateur talent show. It’s America’s Got Talent and it’s a pretty big stage to take your show, whether you’ve performed in front of an audience or not.
